Code of Practice

The industry Code of Practice is aimed at preventing workplace discrimination, harassment, sexual harassment and bullying.

There are a number of important documents that form part of the Code of Practice, including most notably the Code of Practice itself, which is a summary of the law as it applies to screen production. Also published below are template documents which can be adopted by productions and applied in the workplace. These documents include the template Production Policy, a Complaint Procedure and Complaint Form and a template Statement of Acknowledgment that employees have read the Code of Practice. Together, these documents that make up the Code of Practice have been agreed between Screen Producers Australia (SPA) and the Media, Entertainment and Arts Alliance (MEAA). SPA members can also download these documents from the SPA website after login.

Respectful Workplaces

The Respectful Workplaces e-training course promotes safe, inclusive workplaces where everyone is treated with dignity and respect. It breaks down cultural and sexual orientation biases, while highlighting the benefits of diversity, including stronger collaboration, creativity, retention, and employee well-being.

Contact Officer

The Contact Officer e-training supports productions to be able to respond properly to bullying, harassment and discrimination. If problems arise on set, the Contact Officer may be the first point of contact, a go-to person for friendly support, and they need a clear understanding of their role and responsibility.

The course covers how to identify unacceptable behaviour, the relevant legislative framework, and practical communication techniques to support colleagues in deciding on appropriate next steps. Tailored to the screen industry, the training helps Contact Officers perform the role confidently, sensitively and effectively.
